HOW TO BUILD A BRAND
Building a successful brand does not happen overnight. It takes time, effort, dedication, out-of-the-box thinking and pure hustle. The successful brands? They have mastered the art of combining messaging, design and print into their marketing strategies that either (a) pull on the heart strings or (b) establish a personalized connection with their audience. But how do you get there?
Today’s mini Tepsi Talk dives into the 4 steps into building a brand.
1. LOGO DESIGN
When you are starting a new business, or even if you just need a revamp to your current branding, it all initiates with your logo design. Sure, you can go onto a cheap online logo generator that will whip up a logo for you in seconds, but is it worth it? Does a random machine *really* know the personality, or funky qualities, of what makes your company who it is? Not to mention, how many times has the generator presented this option you are looking at to someone else?
You want your logo to be unique and personable to you, not something that anyone else can copy or have. How do you achieve this? By making the investment and meeting with a designer that can turn your brand vision into a work of art.
PRO TIP: Once you have a logo that you absolutely love, and that no one else can copy, we suggest taking the extra steps and building a brand style guide with “rules” on how and how not to use your logo.
2. WEBSITE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
Your website can be your brands first impression on a current or future guest or client. Utilize your new logo and develop a brand style that will be reflected throughout your website. Make sure to really think about the information you are presenting and in the style it is portrayed. For instance, videos and motion graphics are more pleasing to the eye than a body of text.
PRO TIP: Don’t go crazy! Less is certainly more when it comes to a website design. Stay away from crazy vibrant colors and do not bombard viewers with a book of text. Because let’s face it, no one is going to read it!
It is important to make sure not only that your website is user friendly, appealing to the eye and has important information, but that it can also be easily found. By connecting your website to Google and various social media channels, you’ll have multiple avenues for current and future guests and clients to find you.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
Once you have a website, the next step is really establishing a presence on a variety of social media platforms. Being in today’s day and age, social media is not going anywhere anytime soon. Use this to your advantage! Build a personality around your brand and connect with your target audience on a personal level.
PRO TIP: Focus on 2 social media platforms to start, and slowly build up and add more channels. Every industry is not going to be widely accepted on every platform, so do some trial and error and see what works for YOU and YOUR brand.
Remember, making a personal connection with your audience is more than just posting for a sale. Provide input, show value and build relationships that will last. Trust us, the sales will come!
4. PRINT MARKETING
Once you have your digital presence set up and have a vision for your brand, now it’s time to think about how to get your name out in the community through print. Whether you are thinking about business cards, direct mailers, brochures, stickers, flyers or handouts, print marketing is a great and effective way of physically getting your name out into the community.
But don’t let the traditional ways of print marketing get the best of you, think outside-the-box and bring attention to your brand that it deserves! When it comes to printing, it all comes down to the execution and whether or not the piece has a “WOW” factor.
PRO TIP: “WOW” factors can include: clear ink patterns, white ink highlights, creative folds, die cutting, embellishments, infrared ink, textured paper, extra think paper and ultimately combining design and print to create one heck of a marketing piece.
BUILDING A BRAND
It is important to point out that staying in one marketing avenue is not going to make you into a widely successful company. Sure, staying digital and only social media will get you some hits, but when you learn how to combine digital media, design AND print, you’re going to be unstoppable.
